Do I have to be Jewish to volunteer for LJWB?
No. LJWB welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds, faiths, and walks of life, serving both the Jewish community and residents in the local LS17 area. The organisation maintains a diverse and inclusive volunteer family committed to local care and kindness.
Is there an age limit for volunteering?
In general, there is no upper age limit — as long as you can make a safe, useful contribution, we would love to have you. We also welcome younger volunteers under 18 to get involved, though we do not permit anyone under 18 to work alone or unsupervised in line with our safeguarding practices.
How much time do I need to give?
There is no strict minimum time commitment. Some roles benefit from regular weekly or fortnightly shifts—such as joining our Wellbeing Group or providing one-to-one befriending. Other positions offer flexible or seasonal hours. We will work with you to arrange a schedule that matches your availability.
Will I receive training and support?
Yes. Every single volunteer receives a thorough induction to ensure they feel entirely confident, safe, and happy in their designated role. Depending on your position, you will receive tailored training, and you will always have access to ongoing support from our dedicated Volunteer Coordinator.
.
Are volunteers rewarded and recognised?
Volunteers are recognized through an annual celebration, active promotion on social media during Volunteers’ Week, and regular features in the internal newsletter. These initiatives highlight the contributions of the team to the organisation.
Will I be insured?
Yes. All registered volunteers are fully covered by LJWB’s public liability insurance policy while performing their designated duties on behalf of the charity.
Do I need a DBS check to volunteer?
Yes, we conduct Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for all of our volunteers. LJWB is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our community. Depending on the specific role you apply for, we will guide you through the process for either a standard or an enhanced DBS check.
