LEEDS JAM MAKING BUSINESS DONATES CASH TO LOCAL CHARITIES FOR WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Yorkshire More is delighted to be able to make their very first donation of profits to two local mental health charities – Leeds Mind and Leeds Jewish Welfare Board (LJWB) Mental Health Services.  The donations are being made on 10th October to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

Leeds Mind will use the cash to help fund their mental health services in Leeds – including Befriending, Peer Support, Counselling and Key working. LJWB will spend their contribution on further development of mental health services for men through their local men’s group and a wide range of support services on offer to the local community.

Yorkshire More is a social enterprise making jams and chutneys in support of mental health.  The enterprise is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom have been affected by mental health problems and all profits are donated to mental health charities.

All our volunteers have benefited from their involvement with us. Key successes include boosting the self-esteem, self-confidence and feeling of self-worth for our volunteers. In one case this has led the individual back in to work after being long term unemployed.  We also have a number of foreign individuals whose English has improved as a result of their involvement leading to improved social inclusion. We also help individuals who are carers of partners with mental health problems – their participation gives them an outlet to manage their own wellbeing.

QUOTES:

Liz Bradbury (CEO at LJWB) “We are delighted with how far Yorkshire More has come in such a short time from when it began here at LJWB as a service user and staff joint initiative. Yorkshire More’s jams and chutneys are truly helping many people who deal with mental health issues or have a member of their family who does. The funds donated by Yorkshire More will now be helping us to support many more people, and especially men who generally access fewer mental health support services in the UK and locally. The icing on the cake is that Yorkshire More products are both delicious and of a high standard. We look forward to many more years of joint working with this remarkable enterprise.”
Linda Casper, (Director at Yorkshire More) “I am so proud of what has been achieved by Yorkshire More and it’s all down to our fantastic volunteers – the jam-making is therapeutic for many of our volunteers and so to be able to also donate profits to mental health charities, to support others in need, is doubly rewarding.  We are always looking for more volunteers so drop us a line if you might be interested.”
Becca Batchelor, (Leeds Mind) “We enjoyed visiting Yorkshire More, meeting the volunteers and seeing the jam-making in action. Leeds Mind are grateful for Yorkshire More’s support and fantastic fundraising efforts. The money raised will help fund our range of services for people in the Leeds area experiencing mental health difficulties.”

The Programme included –  an update from Mindful Employer Leeds, Top Tips on Wellbeing Policies from Irwin Mitchell and a new mental health resource, Mindwell.
